You have decided to give up your day job and start working from home to make money online as an affiliate marketer. You like the idea of setting your own hours and not having to answer to anyone else. You can sleep in late and go to work in your pajamas. Working from home isn’t as easy as it sounds, it isn’t all cake and ice cream. There are certain principles that you must put into place if you are going to be successful working from home as an affiliate marketer. 1. Schedule your working hours. You are on your own now and you can work whenever you want and whatever hours that you want. If you just tell yourself that will get the work done when you feel like it then the work will never get done. You need to schedule specific hours for yourself to be at work each day. Affiliate marketing takes a lot of time and effort to be successful. You need to be willing to put in those hours. Your schedule should be the same from week to week and when you are working you are not to be interrupted, no phone calls, no visitors dropping by. This is work time not play time.

2. Get yourself a workspace. Trying to work wherever you can set down your laptop will just not get it done. You need to find a specific space in your home that will be used for no purpose other than working on your business. Turn that spare room into an office or finally finish off that basement. If you have no other choice than to use a corner of your bedroom try to use some furniture or partitions to physically separate the workspace.

3. Get the right affiliate marketing tools. Make sure that you have all of the things that will be necessary to accomplish your affiliate marketing tasks. Obviously this includes things like a good quality computer, a printer, and a high speed internet connection. It could also include things like a telephone and a fax machine. Get everything you need and buy the best quality that you can afford. Your investment will pay off.

4. Take care of yourself. It may not be obvious but the most important thing in making your business a success is your health. Make sure that you are eating healthy and staying hydrated. Take frequent breaks when you are working and get up and move around. Many affiliate marketers lead sedentary lifestyles that cut down their health and their lifespan. Take care of yourself now or you will pay the price later.

5. Get help. It is very unlikely for anyone to succeed in a new business venture without seeking out a mentor. Find someone who has had success in your area of interest and don’t be afraid to ask for help. And while you are at it don’t be afraid to make some friends among other affiliate marketers. A group can share ideas to make everyone’s business better and can provide emotional support when times get tough.
