How to Increase Your Chances for Online Success

Are you new to making money online and the affiliate or Internet Marketing business, or have been at it a while and get frustrated more often than you get inspired? If you are no longer enthusiastic and have lost the drive you once had, or if you just feel at a loss as to where to start, you are not alone. Starting your own business and becoming, or staying, successful takes extreme discipline.

Most everyone experiences losing their drive temporarily, permanently, or possibly never found it to begin with, especially with Internet Marketing. However, if you stick to it and push forward towards success, despite a temporary lack of enthusiasm, you have already taken it further than most. Giving up too early is common, and only results in guaranteed failure. The fact that you are reading this though, you aren’t ready to give up yet. Congratulations.

At this point you might be visualizing your overall idea of what you want, as well as the desired result. However, applying your vision to an actual process can be difficult, and you end up spinning your wheels. Maybe you realize that you don’t know where to start, or how to get out of a rut. Yet, you don’t give up because you know your dream can be a reality if you just dig in and keep going.

Step Back to Get a Different Perspective

In order for any business to succeed, you need a plan. And for that plan to be well executed, you need to be organized. Without both of those, you only have luck to rely on.

I started in 1999 as an affilaite marketer, but didn’t really have any idea if I was actually going to succeed. But, it was intriguing, and I realized that I needed to rely more on myself to provide for my family, because my job at the time just wasn’t doing it.

So, I dove into an affiliate program, with some help from a friend. However, even though my experience and knowledge was somewhat limited, I knew I didn’t want to just dive in without a plan, or a dedicated work area. If nothing else, I knew that those are both vital to succeeding.

Working from home and running my business from my couch, or dining room table, just wasn’t an option for me. I chose a space and dedicated that to be my home office, then started looking for an ideal desk, such as a nice corner glass computer desk. I then organized that space so I could keep the distractions down to a bare minimum. I needed to accept that this was a business to be taking seriously, rather than a filler, or hobby.

So, you should take a step back to look at where you will be, or are currently working. Does it resemble an office, or does it look like an extension of your home, with a computer thrown in the mix? Also, do others acknowledge that this area is your work station, and not a play area? If not, set the boundaries now to get everyone in the habit of respecting your choice of space, and career.

Make Sure to Organize Your Home Office

In order to have a well-suited home office, you should have both the right tools, as well as a plan. There are various obstacles a person working from a home office can experience such as Internet connection and limited areas. Also, you will have to handle personal interruptions like kids, phone, or knocks on the door.

Find a spot for your work area that will give you enough space to actually work, as well as privacy to limit interruptions. Of course you will be working at a desk, not doing aerobics, and won’t need an entire floor. So be resourceful. I know of someone who once used their guest room closet. Even though the closet was being used, it was for seasonal clothing. He took these items out of the closet and placed them in storage boxes, which he then stored under his bed. Next, he found an L shape desk for home, which actually fit in the closet. After he drilled some holes for the power cords, he had his home office.

And, when the work day is over, he can use the folding doors to get the office out of sight, other than his chair, which sits perfectly normal in the room. It’s an ideal situation for him for the following reasons:

  • He has the necessary privacy with a simple shut of the bedroom door.
  • It’s recognized as his workspace, because he’s the only one to use it.
  • It takes up very little space of the family home, and is out of the way, which eliminates the temptation his kids might have if it’s all out in the open.

Once the work space has been determined, and your computer and Internet are hooked up, you should look for tools that will organize your repetitive tasks (saving passwords), share information (Google Docs), and increase your communication abilities (Skype). Just do a little research, because there is a vast selection available to help you with running your business more proficiently.

Organization will Result in Optimum Operation

On the edge of being a tongue twister, but true. It might be tempting to download all the gadgets that promise to make your life easier. But, many of them do nothing more than bog down your computer, and collect ‘dust’.

Most people will perform better when their work area is clean, and not cluttered. Same is true for a computer. So, every once in a while I do a little ‘Spring Cleaning’ on my computer, regardless of what time of year it really is. If it needs it, do it. I get rid of unnecessary tools, programs, and icons that are doing nothing more than taking up space. I love technology, but it has to be practical. A shiny new convertible in the driveway isn’t doing me any good, if it doesn’t perform. The same can be said about so many of the available tools for my computer.

I use Windows, so the process of deleting unnecessary programs is easy, by clicking on ‘control panel’, which has an easy add and delete process. Just follow the directions. You might be amazed after a good cleaning, just how well your computer functions afterward.

If you take a little time in the beginning to set up a good work area, then you are well on your way to succeed at your business. Just make sure to keep it clutter free, as well as separate from the rest of the home, and you will be well on your way to succeed.
