How to Earn a Million From Blogging
Probably got your attention there, but sorry it’s under false pretences. It’s a question, not a get rich quick promise. I’m asking the question because I’m fascinated by blogging and the reasons so many people are, erm, at it. Originally, I believe, blogging was something that people did simply for the sheer fun of it. If your primary reason for blogging is to earn money and my heading got your attention for that reason alone, you may have some difficult times ahead. Slogging your way to a million by getting a job may be more helpful. Successful blogging needs a little magic and a lot of passion for blogging itself.
Millions of years of blogging
Blogging goes back as far as paintings on the walls of caves – it’s all about a need to express ourselves. In those days it was a case of some bloke saying “Look at the size of my bison”, no doubt as his spouse thought “you wish”. Ah, nothing changes. The history of blogging continued through several millennium, appearing as the work of commentators, diarists and essayists. It’s never gone away and the eDiary/weblog/blog is just the latest convenient form of it. It has, historically, made some people millions but it’s a funny, tricky format and far more complex than you might think. Sure you can bang some advertising on there and watch the pennies roll in at their own leisurely pace. But when it comes to gaining readers, an audience, no amount of advertising is going to delight them; quite the opposite.
Please yourself while making money from blogging
Blogging as part of your business plan can be even more fraught with difficulty than simply blogging for fun and/or to make money. There are so many things to consider, what are the algorithms going to think of you for a start? There are a lot of blind alleys when it comes to SEO, blogging and search engine rankings. Blogging for business can be complicated by the fact that you are trying to please all of the algorithms all of the time. You can become so pre-occupied with the robotic audience that you can forget that other audience – the one that may actually spend some money. Forget pleasing the algorithms or anyone else for that matter – please yourself for a change. Write what you mean and not what you think you ought to mean. At the other side of the screen is a human being and it’s likely to respond, and whatever that response it’s probably more useful than a well fed algorithm.
Weapon of choice?
Blogging can be immensely powerful. Those pictures of bison may have been a kind of ‘sympathetic magic’ – meaning I’d like my bison to be that big – and the reason it probably worked, as with all ‘sympathetic magic’, is because the person behind it really meant it, was passionate about it. If you are unsure of the potential of blogging consider the fact that many governments are seeking, or already have, considerable control over what is said on the internet. China is allegedly pretty repressive, while in the UAE you can earn up to 3 years in prison for tweeting socially discordant messages (in the UK the going rate for a misguided and drunken Facebook post is its 4 years at HM’s pleasure). The power of words is, despite some serious technological advances, quite probably still more powerful than the sword; in the right hands they can work wonders.
It is possible to earn millions from blogging and it has been done before and with the help of the best SEO Copywriting team you can make that million a little quicker.
